Everyone's taste in Kindle protection is unique and we have been all trying to find different things and perceive some other value when it comes to product cost vs. features. This Kindle cover has several nice attributes, but does lack a number of key features I have found important (plus somewhat of the extra I really could do without).
One thing about Kindle covers is which they boil as an outcome of two design types--the sleeve and the 'book style' covers. Many individuals like the protection and feel in the book type cover, plus some be easels or stands. However, I'm inside the camp where I just prefer holding a 'naked' Kindle while reading. For people like me, the sleeve style will be the strategy to go.
One positive note, well it's AVAILABLE. I think Amazon does get a bit of your bonus when putting out new products-they contain the accessories able to go. Granted it isn't badly as when K3/Keyboard arrived on the scene along with a large amount of vendors were apparently left flat footed sufficient reason for a good deal of inventory no new product. I had been sure a brand new Kindle was being released this time when several sellers were suddenly slashing prices on the covers! This time around there may also be several other alternatives available, although not a complete lot, so again, this one is no less than AVAILABLE.
This sleeve is very lightweight--this is both an optimistic and a negative depending on your use patterns. Part of the appeal of the sleeve is to take care of the sleek nature of my Kindle. A heavy or bulky sleeve detracts from this while almost certainly offering more protection. This technique is light and low profile-- and though there is certainly padding, it is more of your 'keep it safe in a small purse' type. I'd personally NOT feel at ease by using this sleeve in the rougher environment (like my children's backpacks--or even mine). There is certainly minimal rigidity on the design and the padding is rather thin--it will protect the screen, but I'm not sure how well the whole Kindle would withstand heavier impact. Again, great for some use patterns, not ideal for others.
The zipper--positive or negative depending on your reason for view. I prefer zippers in lots of places, I'm not wild about the subject near my Kindle screen as I am somewhat of an klutz. Some designers put a protective fold or flap the keep the zipper away from the actual holding compartment. Not a huge thing, but I don't just like the potential for direct contact between your Kindle along with the zipper.
The materials-hmmm. Not a nice way to state this, but you will find there's fairly strong chemical odor if the package is first opened. Following a couple days that is resolving however i could smell it while holding it right as much as my nose. A bit of the switch off and sensitive noses and airways may well not enjoy this!
The materials again--the fabric is somewhat rough and pebbly and two tone (grey/black for one and two shades of blue for your other)--my sons like the look, but I don't find that appealing and I suspect it will 'pill' after awhile. The household Y chromosomes disagree with me (well, not concerning the 'pill' part, they have no idea what I'm talking about--one of my parenting failures as We have not taught them this apparently), but they love the way in which the covers look.
The little (presumably) faux leather band just isn't sewn all the way down--which is nice because you are able to slip your hand through it and put it to use to hold or as a possible attachment site. I love this.
The construction is perfectly done when it comes to assembly. A very clean, tidy and quality look.
Overall, I give this 4 stars as. We've seen other designs which are able to keep up with the sleek profile but use an even more rigid material for better impact protection, that we prefer. I'm a little leery of the zipper design and I'm not a big fan from the material used. However, there are a lot of nice features too, and everything boils as a result of personal taste and overall it can be a nice, quality, sleeve.
Recommended, simply not for me personally (but these are for my children and they also love them).

EDITED 11/17/11 (at least inside my time zone..). Now my boys are already applying this sleeve for over a month now and i also wanted to add a couple comments. On the plus side the chemical odor did fade completely--no issue during my family, but it absolutely was bad enough which i think someone with reactive airways or perhaps a strong nose could really think it is bothersome. No 'pilling' or zipper issues yet, but the way the zipper goes around there was clearly one case of the Kindle falling out and hitting the tile floor when my youngest thought it was closed all of the way. Obviously user error (the Kindle was fine thankfully!) but design-wise that could be an issue for someone.
This is working out acceptable for my kiddos...at this point I'd give a 4.5 stars if I could!

Excellent case, fits the Kindle very nicely. Snug, but less than snug to make it tough to fit the Kindle into. Case is VERY light and thin, picking it using the Kindle in it, you almost seem like there can't be anything in there, because the Kindle is so light too.
Feels like there could be a touch of extra space about the side so as to support the Kindle Touch, that is slightly larger than the new Kindle. Nevertheless it feels much like the case was created just to the new Kindle without touch, it fits very well.
The inside material is soft plus a bit spongy, and feels like it will offer good protection to the Kindle. I am comfortable tossing this in a very bag or backpack without worrying about damaging the Kindle.
Zipper goes around 2 sides only, and works very smoothly. Great case!
